  1. I played guitar years ago, still have it in fact. I like having the chords over the words. I can’t read music, so this is great. If I can learn the chords again, I love this method of learning!

    1. Awesome. Yes, it’s a great way to learn, especially if you don’t have developed your ear yet. I would say, it’s also important to listen to the song and notice the different variations. That’s how you’re going to train your ear.

  2. Hey,

    Great post.

I play guitar and have been in a good few bands. I usually learn new songs by listening and trying things out, but this is a great way to leanr quickly and would be great for newbies.

What style of guitar is your favourite?

    Tom

    1. Hi Tom. Great! It’s the best way to learn new songs. Your ear is your best ally. I really like acoustic guitars. I don’t know why, probably the cozy feeling. What’s yours?

  3. Hi Ben,
    Great post for newbies!
Currently, I play ( Grade 4) and practice it 2 hours a day!

Playing the guitar using master notes are sometimes really annoying. That’s why I focus on only playing lead guitar. I find this method is very easy to learn a new song.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hey Maun! Thanks for your comment. I’ve never heard of master notes before. If you’re playing lead guitar, you mostly need to know how to read notes either on a guitar tab, or on a music sheet. Chords will be useful if you want to know where you are.
